Course Description:
In this course, Carla Prado, PhD, RD, and David Evans, MD, FACS will review the role of muscle mass in the critical care setting; summarize ideal body composition measurement techniques for ICU patients with and without obesity; and illustrate the benefits of early nutrition intervention on outcomes in this patient population. Ainsley M. Malone, MS, RDN, LD, CNSC, FAND, FASPEN is a Nutrition Support Dietitian at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She previously taught graduate-level courses for 8 years as an adjunct instructor in the College of Health Professions at Rosalind Franklin University. She holds a master’s degree from Finch University/Chicago Medical School (now Rosalind Franklin University). Ms. Malone is also a Clinical Practice Specialist at the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), which is headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland. At ASPEN, she served as president (2013-2014), was previously chair of the Malnutrition Committee, and acted as their representative to the Malnutrition Workgroup within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
She is dedicated to service and furthering the profession and has held multiple positions within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. These include Director of the House of Delegates, Chair of the Academy’s Positions and Evidence-Based Practice committees, Chair of the Critical Illness Evidence Analysis Workgroup, and Chair of the Dietitians in Nutrition Support dietetic practice group. There, she is also co-editor for the pocket guides Enteral Nutrition, Parenteral Nutrition, and Nutrition Assessment. She was a 2015 recipient of the Medallion Award for outstanding service.
