Course Description:

In this course, Michelle L. Schneider, MS, RD, CNSC, CCTD, FASPEN will identify the prevalence of adult malnutrition in the critical care setting; demonstrate how to apply the knowledge of nutrition-focused physical exam within the unique challenges of the critical care setting; review the characteristics for identifying adult malnutrition based on AND/ASPEN consensus; and discuss practice strategies (including nutrition intervention) for improved patient outcomes. Michelle is the Lead Clinical Dietitian at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. She is a certified nutrition support dietitian (CNSC) and certified clinical transplant dietitian (CCTD) and has over 12 years of experience in critical care nutrition. She is an active member of several ASPEN committees, a past president of WiSPEN, and an NFPE trainer with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Her main interests revolve around enteral feeding during hemodynamic instability, nutrition in end-stage liver disease, and disease-related malnutrition and micronutrient deficiency, and she has published over a dozen peer-reviewed articles on these topics. Michelle received the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year award in 2016, and the Distinguished Nutrition Support Dietitian – Advanced Clinical Practice Award in 2020, and she achieved FASPEN designation in 2021.
