Course Description:

In this course, Surekha Pendyal, MSc, MEd, RD, FAND will describe the cellular processes affected by Pompe Disease; describe goals of nutrition therapy in children and adults; recognize the limitations of nutrition therapy; examine research on exercise and nutrition co-therapy; and describe other nutritional concerns in Pompe Disease. Originally presented live at the 19th Abbott Metabolic Conference on May 18, 2023, in San Antonio, TX.

Surekha holds both a Master's in Science and a Master’s in Education. She has a long history in dietetics starting in 1992. Surekha started her metabolic nutrition role in 1997 in the Division of Genetics and Metabolism at the University of North Carolina. Surekha stayed in North Carolina but is now working as a clinical research dietitian in the Division of Medical Genetics at Duke University. She is an excellent resource for the nutritional management of glycogen storage disorders.
